About International Trade
GoConqr OriginalWhat the page covers
The resources follow the usual path through international trade. Some explain why countries trade: specialisation, comparative advantage, lower prices, more choice and economies of scale. Others look at the limits on trade, such as tariffs, quotas and wider protectionism. A third group covers integration, trading blocs, terms of trade and the balance of payments.
Where to start
Begin with a mind map for the big picture. The IB Economics: International Trade mind map sets out the reasons for trade and its gains. Economics Unit 3 lists advantages and disadvantages side by side. If you prefer notes, try Introduction to International Trade, then The Law of Comparative Advantage.
Moving on to policy and blocs
Next, look at how governments act. Methods of Protectionism and Government Intervention in International Trade are two notes to read here. The mind map International Trade 2 covers tariffs, controversies in trade policy and trade policy in developing countries. For a longer essay-style view, the map on the effects of the growth of trading blocs covers trade creation, trade diversion, FDI and inequality, and ends with evaluation points.
Using quizzes with maps
Read a map, then test yourself straight away. The Trading blocs questions quiz starts with free trade areas. IE Chapter 6 asks about terms of trade, and IE Chapter 5 uses the Heckscher-Ohlin model, so it suits university study. Note which questions you miss, go back to the matching map branch, and try again later.
- Use flashcards such as Economics Globalisation Code for quick recall of lists.
- Use the exam-style quizzes once you know the terms.
- Check the A-level, GCSE and IB mentions in titles to find material close to your course.
Where it sits
This unit belongs to the strand The Global Economy in Economics. It links naturally to the wider topics of globalisation and integration found in the same strand.

Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
Start with the IB Economics: International Trade mind map. It gives a quick overview of why countries trade, including specialisation, comparative advantage, lower prices, competition and economies of scale. After that, read the Introduction to International Trade notes, then move to a quiz to check what stuck.
What do the mind maps cover?
They cover reasons for trade, gains from trade, protectionism, trade agreements, stages of economic integration, terms of trade and the balance of payments. Some are essay-style, such as the one assessing the growth of trading blocs, with trade creation, trade diversion and evaluation points.
Which levels and exams do these suit?
The resources are a fairly even split of secondary and university material. Titles and excerpts mention A-level Economics, A-level Business, GCSE Economics and IB Economics. University students and professional candidates will find model-based quizzes, such as those on Heckscher-Ohlin and terms of trade.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource on this page is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself, so styles and depth vary. Choose the ones that match your course and the way you like to revise.
Is there anything on trading blocs?
Yes. The Trading blocs questions quiz begins with free trade areas, and a mind map assesses how trading blocs affect the global economy. There are also flashcards on the EU and on trade agreements and organisations, plus a mind map on the stages of economic integration.
What if I can't find my exact topic?
Try nearby titles first, such as comparative advantage, protectionism, economic integration or balance of payments, since the same ideas often appear under different names. If a gap remains, you can build your own quiz, map or flashcards on the topic with a free account.
