Capacity
- Limited Capacity
- There have been arguments that the capacity is much larger than previously thought
- Cowan (2001) investigated and found we can only memorise up to about 4 chunks and 4 visual items can be stored in the STM, challenging Miller's number
- This means that Miller's Magic Number is not correct
- Chunk Size
- The size of the chunk affects how many items you can store
- Simon (1974) found larger chunks result in a smaller memory span overall
- Limited Capacity
