The Multi-Store Memory Model

     • The length of time you can hold information for

2. sensory register

   • Iconic (visual) and echoic (sound) stores for stimuli from the environment – both have a large capacity but a very brief duration.

3. short-term memory

   • Mainly acoustic coding, it has a limited capacity which is between 5 and 9 seconds on average, and limited duration which is about 18 seconds.

4. long-term memory

   • It has an unlimited capacity, duration lasts up to a lifetime, mainly semantic coding.
