Intelligence- Dara Stone

  1. Emotional Intelligence

    • This intelligence is when a person can recognize emotions in others as well as control their own (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019, pg. 314).
  2. General Intelligence

    • This type of intelligence is when one single factor is evaluated to determine someone's ability to perform any given task (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019, pg. 314).
  3. Fluid and Crystallized Intelligence

    • This is when a person shows two types of intelligence. They show fluid intelligence when they think fast and in unknown situations. They will show crystallized intelligence by having the knowledge and life experiences to figure out different problems that arise (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019, pg. 314).
  4. Triarchic Theory

    • This theory explains the three different characteristics of intelligence. First is analytical intelligence which deals with solving puzzles and problems. Second is creative intelligence which deals with having the ability to think outside the box and think in new and different ways than normal. Lastly, practical intelligence is the ablilty to learn skills that deal with everyday tasks such as learning how to tie shoes (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019, pg. 314).
  5. Multiple Intelligence

    • This intelligence can not be scored based on a person's IQ test. Instead, it is measured by many different aspects of intelligence. These aspects include naturalistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, musical, spatial intelligence, linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic, logical/mathematical (Grison & Gazzaniga, 2019, pg. 314). Over the years, more and more people have realized that children need to be tested not only based on their IQ but they need to understand that there are multiple different bits of intelligence. Each child will have different skills that they are good at as well as skills they are not good at. Schools have also been learning that there are many different ways to draw the children back into the learning environment (Jackson, 2017, para. 4).
    • Bodily Kinesthetic
      • Having skills when needing to use the whole body to complete a task(Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 8/10 because I am pretty coordinated and I like using my body to get a task done rather than just using my brain, for example.
    • Logical- Mathematical
      • Having skills in scientific thinking and problem solving (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 4/10 because I do not like math and I am not amazing at it. I can learn it but I do not enjoy it.
    • Linguistic
      • Having skills in language and production (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 3/10 because I do not know any other languages than English. I also do not enjoy writing. I do like note-taking and making writing look pretty but I am not creative in the words I actually use.
    • Naturalist
      • Having the ability to recognize patterns in nature (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 8/10 because I love the outdoors like going hiking, surfing, running, going to the beach, etc. but I do not really care about examining nature and figuring out what a plant is called (i.e. examining a certain kind of plant).
    • Interpersonal
      • Having skills in interacting with others (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 9/10 because I love talking to others and I can usually tell when someone I know well is having a bad day. But I do not want to be a counselor, I would rather just sit back and watch how people communicate with others instead of always trying to help others with communication.
    • Spatial Intelligence
      • Skills in thinking about things with pictures and images (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 7/10 because I do prefer learning from pictures and images but I can also learn other ways such as verbally. Repetition is key for me and it does not matter too much otherwise. I do find I learn better when I re-draw things out though.
    • Musical
      • Involving skills and tasks pertaining to musical expression (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 8/10 because I love to sing and I lead worship at my church but I do not know how to play any instruments.
    • Intrapersonal
      • Having skills and good knowledge about oneself (Arulselvi, 2018, pg. 103).
        • My score is 7/10 because I diffidently do not know everything about myself and I am still learning every day.
