Intelligence - Tyler DeGroot
Fluid and Crystalized
- Definition: Fluid Intelligence is the ability and skill to act quickly in complex situations, while Crystallized Intelligence is the use of knowledge through experience in solving problems. (Fluid vs Crystallized Intelligence)
- How it relates to me: Because I am still in the younger stages of my life, so I do not believe that I have the Crystallized Intelligence of most other people. As for fluid Intelligence, I feel that I have a decent response time and decision making when pressed with a complex situation. For example, I have a good response when a friend unexpectedly calls me with a unique situation and I must give advice or a solution. (Fluid vs Crystallized Intelligence)
- Examples: When considering this form of intelligence, I imagine a wiser and more aged individual who has a lot of experience in life. They obtain a lot of knowledge that can only be gained through these circumstances. A fluid thinker excels in unexpected situations. I imagine this as a first responder. They can easily assess the situation placed in front of them and make a logical decision.
Emotional
- Definition: The ability to recognize and manage emotions in oneself and others around them. (Psychology in Your Life)
- Examples: Recognizing a rising emotional situation and excusing yourself before things become to heated. Another way to view this is recognizing a problem that is consuming a friend and dressing it before they eve tell you.
- How it relates to me: I feel that I am rather well at controlling my own emotions and acting appropriately in these types of situations. When it comes to recognizing the emotional state of others, I am not as strong as an observer. This observation leads me to believe that I will need to focus on this aspect because if I I wish to be a leader in the work field, I must gain a greater understanding of others emotions. (Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace)
