Polymers

1. Polymers are materials that have large molecules. they are made by joining together to thousands of smaller molecules called monomers

2. Examples of polymers: Plastic bags (polyethene), rope, underground water pipes, food containers, (polypropene)

3. Polymers do NOT have double carbon-carbon bonds

4. Designer polymers

   • There are two different types of polyethene, High density polyethene (HDPE) and Low density polyethene (LDPE)
   • Hydrogels
     • They made of polymers such as poly(sodium propenoate)
   • Shape memory polymers
   • Water proof fabrics

5. Polyethene is made by joining together thousands of ethene molecules
