1. Social Psychological Explanation

   • Deindivuation
     • Deindividuation is a psychological state where people lose their sense of socialised individuality so engage in antisocial behaviour

       • Zimbardo's prison study. People were assigned the roles of Guard and prisoners. Guards behaved in an aggressive manner and there was too much aggression than was ever needed to take control
         • This study lacks population validity as they were all male students

       • Zimbardo one group of 4 women in thick clothing, were never addressed by their name. They were asked to shock a Confederate Ps. Those who were in the deindivuated condition gave shocks for twice as long.
