1. Multi-Store model

   • Capacity: the amount of information that can be stored at a given time
     • STM: 7±2 itmes LTM: virtually unlimited
   • Duration: the length of time information remains within storage
     • STM: 18-30 seconds if rehearsal is prevented LTM: up to a lifetime
   • Encoding: the means by which information is represented in memory
     • STM: mainly acoustic LTM: mainly semantic

2. Working Memory Model

   • Just for STM
   • Central Executive: coordinates the other components in the WMM. Limited capactiy.
   • Phonological Loop: deals with auditory information
   • Visuo-spatial sketchpad: deals with visual and spatial items
   • Episodic Buffer: stores integrated information from the central executive, phonological loop, visuo-spatial sketchpad and long-term memory
