Working Memory Model

1. Central executive: it is in charge of monitoring incoming data and allocating slave systems to tasks -limited capacity.

2. Phonological loop: deals with auditory info( coding is acoustic)- has a phonological store (stores the words you hear)- articulatory control system (allows maintenance rehearsal of words- capacity thought to be 2 seconds of what you can say)

3. Visuo-spatial sketchpad: responsible for visual and spatial data-limited capacity of 3/4 objects

4. Episodic Buffer:added in 2000-temporary store for info-maintains time sequencing-limited capacity of about 4 chunks

5. Positive evaluation: KF supports separate stores(poor verbal but good visual- damage to phonological loop-unique case) - dual task performance supports(harder doing 2 visual tasks than one verbal and one visual)-word length effect supports phonological loop (baddeley-harder to remember long words because they can be rehearsed less in the articulatory store duration of 2 seconds)- brain scans support~(CE tasks showed activity in pre frontal cortex)

6. Negative evaluation: lack of clarity over central executive (critics say CE does not really explain anything and should be more clearly specified- some say it may be separate too-so WMM was not a full explanation)
