Solutions and Fluids
A substance is something that cannot be altered or simplified.
H2O is a substance because it's a complex fluid and cannot be simplified.
A mixture is different though, it can be altered and/ or simplified because it is made of many smaller parts.
There are two kinds of mixtures the first one being a heterogeneous mixture.
A heterogeneous mixture is an unevenly mixed mixture.
The second kind of mixture is a homogeneous mixture.
A homogeneous mixture is an equally and evenly mixed mixture.
A homogeneous mixture can also be classified as a solution.
A solution is something made of a solute and a solvent.
A solute is a substance that can dissolve into another substance
A solvent is a substance that the solute dissolves into.
When a substance has a solubility that means it has the ability to dissolve into other substances.
The bigger amount of solute in a solution changes the concentration of the solution.
A fluid as anything that can flow. A fluid always takes the shape of whatever it’s in.
All fluid exerts pressure, meaning it pushes on its surroundings.
