The purpose of using the Social-Ecological Model - Explain determinants of PA - Explain the relationship between these factors and PA - Explain the conditions under which relationships with PA do and do not occur (e.g. the place, time and circumstances that lead to PA) - EVALUATE AND CRITIQUE PA INTERVENTION STRATEGIES
Individual Level GENERAL STRATEGIES increases knowledge and attitudes towards PA, increases self-efficacy, enhances behavioural skills (e.g. goal setting, rewards & reminder systems), implements education programs
Social Environment Level GENERAL STRATEGIES considers family/peers, includes social events (e.g. training, fun runs), considers social support, considers social participation
Physical Environment Level GENERAL STRATEGIES removes barriers to PA, provides new equipment/facilities, changes the built environment (e.g. walking trails), increases accessibility
Policy Level GENERAL STRATEGIES changes rules to increase PA, uses incentives, creates organisational change, forms new partnerships/networks
Individual level DEFINE Strategies that facilitate change at an individual level Individual characteristics such as age, gender, culture, attitudes, behaviour, self-efficacy, skills & knowledge
Social Environment level DEFINE The formal, informal and support network around an individual. Can be provided family, friends or organisations by setting up groups. Involve helping people to be active
Physical Environment level DEFINE Changes to both the natural and constructed environment. Can aid in creating a better aesthetic or add/alter facilities and amenities (buildings, paths, flattening hills)
Policy level DEFINE Laws, regulations, formal and informal rules that are adopted by an organisation to guide an individual or groups behaviour.
