What 3 problems did they face? They had to end war with Germany Set up a Marxist-style state Hold onto power against opponents

What did Communists do after Lenin was shot and injured in 1918? Launched reign of terror on their critics
What occurred during it? New secret police, CHEKA, arrested and executed thousands Tsar and his family were murdered at this time
Who were "The Whites" made up of? Tsarists, Social Revolutionaries, Mensheviks and others
What did Lenin harshly impose? The economic system "War Communism"
What did this mean? What did this cause? Red Guards went into country and seized grain from peasants without paying Peasants stopped growing food causing famine in 1920

What did Lenin announce at 10th Party Congress? War Communism to be replaced by New Economic Policy (NEP)
