Feminism
1 Types of Feminists
1.1 Marxist Feminist- a woman who believes they are oppressed by both men and capitalism.
1.2 Liberal Feminist- someone who argues that changes have taken place and believe that there will be equality if attitudes change
1.3 Radical Feminist- someone who believes that it is men who dominate women
2 History of Feminism
2.1 1st wave of feminism: The suffragists (NUWSS) and the suffragettes wanted the right to vote. The suffragists protested peacefully by making posters and putting them around the area. The suffragettes (WSPU) protested by chaining themselves to railings and causing trouble.
2.1.1 1918- women over 30 were allowed to vote
2.1.2 1928- women over 21 gained the right to vote
2.2 2nd wave of feminism
2.2.1 1960- concentrating on equal rights in the workplace .
2.2.2 1970- equal pay act. however, the pay is still not equal, even today
3 How feminism still exists
3.1 Government
3.1.1 Most members are men (33 males and 8 females)
3.1.2 Make rules that benefit men more
3.1.3 women are mostly in food, education government jobs
3.2 Education
3.2.1 Male teachers are paid more
3.2.2 head teachers are most male
3.2.3 boy students are persuaded to choose maths, science/ technology
3.2.4 Girls won't take part in sports because it is manly
3.3 Family
3.3.1 women stay at home, do thew housework and look after the children
3.3.1.1 cooking/cleaning/etc
3.3.2 Men went to work (main breadwinner)
3.4 Media
3.4.1 men shown as strong and tough
3.4.2 women judged more on appearance
3.4.3 Men own most companies
3.4.4 News papers for mens benefit
3.4.5 most sports on tv are played by men
