Sympathetic Neurones
Sweating
- A rise in temp. causes nervous system to send signals to sweat glands
- The glands produce sweat which evaporates - cooling the body
- Bonds are broken & the energy is removed from the body
- Once body temp. decreases sweat stops being produced
Vasodilation
- If the temp. rises the blood vessels dilate
- This means that more heat is lost from the skins surface
- The shunt contracts pushing more blood through the blood vessel
Vasoconstriction
- If the temperature falls the blood vessel constricts
- This takes the blood away from the surface of the skin
- This means that less heat is lost from the skins surface
Shivering
- This is the muscles contracting
- ATP is broken down to ADP
- This gives out heat energy to warm the blood temperature back up
General
- They are motor neurones
- They are the body's response to a temperature change
Pilo - Erection
- Body Temp. falls causing muscles to contract
- This causes hair to stand up
- This causes a trapping of air which acts as insulation
