Graded Potentials

1. If concentration of ions across plasma membrane changes, membrane's voltage changes

2. Hyperpolarisation

   • Increase in polarity to make it more negative
   • Cause
     • Efflux of K+ through passive K+ channels
     • Influx of Cl- through passive Cl- channels

3. Depolarisation

   • Decrease in polarity to make it more positive
   • Cause
     • Influx of Na+ through (normally closed) Na+ channels
