LECTURE 24
  1. COOPER-EROMANGA BASINS CASE STUDY
    1. vertically stacked basin in central Aus
      1. all vertically stacked basins have same geographic location, but different age&distribution - different name
      2. Ref Sping carried out the first exploration
        1. Santos, Beach & Stuart currently produce in the basins
          1. Cooper-Eromanga basins
            1. Cooper is Permian age (oldest)200/230-300Ma
              1. Eromanga basin is Triassic to Early Cretaceous age (youngest) <200/230Ma
                1. two basin are separated by an unconformity (Triassic-Jurassic)
                2. First discovery at Gidgealpa field in 1963 (structural high in Cooper basin)
                  1. Gidgealpa-1 well
                    1. Gidgealpa-2 well
                      1. drill-on structure - first gas discovery from Toolachee Formation
                        1. Subsequent wells made gas discovery from Toolahee, Patchawarra, Tirrawarra Formation
                          1. Oil is not discovered until 1984 from Eromanga rocks
                        2. drilled off-structure - resulted in Permian gas shows
                      2. Later discover at Permian Zero Edge
                        1. Reservoir in Eromanga rock
                          1. Sourced from Cooper rocks
                        2. 1 well can drill through many basin
