1. Political Organisation

   • Large kingdoms
     • Some examples are Kosala and Kuru
     • Magadh and Kashi
   • King
     • Had absolute power-performed sacrifices like Ashwamedha and Rajasuya
   • Senani became more important
   • Sabha and Samiti lost importance

2. Social Life

   • Family
     • Women - not allowed to read Vedic literature- denied education
     • Widow remarriage was looked down upon.

3. Gods

   • Brahma-Creator
   • Vishnu- Preserver
   • Shiva- Destroyer
   • Priests were looked upon as messengers of God

4. Economy

   • Agriculture- main occupation
   • Weaving, leather work, pottery, carpentry and jewellery making- developed
   • Trade flourished

5. Literature and Science

   • Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda were composed
   • Upanishads
   • The Ramayana
   • The Mahabharata
