- Generally has less space but is faster than the hard disk
- When power is lost all information in RAM is lost (it is volatile)
ROM (Read-Only Memory)
- Cannot be edited or deleted
- Stores information that will not need to be changed
- Stores bootstrapping instructions (the initial steps for turning on)
Cache Memory
- Stores copies of information from RAM that is used very frequently
- Very quick memory
- Very close to the CPU
Flash Memory
- Uses electronic chips for storage
- Non-volatile (information is not lost when there is no power)
