Memory

  1. RAM

    • Random access Memory
      • Allows storage of data and information such as OS's
      • RAM advantages you can "write" to ram at any time, and then erase the ram at any time and "rewrite" over it.
      • It has a disadvantage in that you need to constantly supply it with power or it will lose its information.
    • Is volatile, loses its state when power supply is lost
  2. ROM

    • Read Only Memory
      • ROM advantage is that (generally) once it is "written" to, it will be there forever.
      • It does not require constant source of electricity.
      • cannot be altered
  3. Flash Memory

    • Faster read and write compared to traditional hard disk drives.
    • Currently costs a lot more per gigabyte than traditional hard drives for large storage capacities.
    • Less prone to damage.
