Flashcards
5) Correlations
Flashcards do conjunto (9)
- 1Briefly what are correlations?-Statistical technique
-Measuring two variables
-looking for a relationship between two variables
-No independent and dependant variables; only co-variables - 2what does the term correlation refer to?the measure of how strongly the variable are related to each other
- 3What is a positive correlation? As one of the variables increases, the other also increases
- 4what is a negative correlation?-As one of the variable increases, the other decreases
- 5What is no correlation?-Where the two variables are said to be uncorrelated
- 6how are correlations presented and measured?-correlations are displayed on scatter graphs
- 7what does correlation not mean?correlation does not mean causation
- 8what is a correlation co-efficient?-Tells us about the strength of the relationship
-uses are scale bar between +1 and -1
-If the number is close to +1 then there is a strong positive correlation
-if the number is close to -1 then there is a strong negative correlation - 9what are the rules for the three types of hypothesis in a correlation?-Null: Must include there will be no relationship/ correlation
-Two tailed: Should say that there will be a significant relationship/ correlation but no direction stated
-One tailed: Must say if positive or negative correlation
