- 4What is a species?A group of similar organisms that can reproduce to produce fertile offspring.
- 5When does speciation occur?When populations of the same species become so different that they can no longer breed together to produce fertile offspring
- 6What 2 things lead to speciation?Isolation and natural selection
- 7What is isolation?Where populations of a species is separated.
- 8What causes isolation?Physical barriers
- 9How does speciation occur?
- 10Why do different environments cause speciation?Different characteristics will become more common in each population due to natural selection
- 11How does natural selection effect speciation?In each population, individuals with characteristics that make them batter adapted to their environment have a better chance of survival and so are more likely to breed successfully. So the alleles that control the beneficial characteristics are more likely to be passed on to the next generation
