Key Words
CPU- Fetches, decode and executes instructions in a computer system
Von Neumann Architecture- Contains CPU ALU, registers pc, Input and output methods, External storage,Control U
MAR- Memory Address Register- Hold address (location) of next instruction to be executed/already been executed
MDR- Memory Data Register- Hold next instruction to be executed?already been executed
PC-Program Counter- Holds the location of the next instructions/data address in main memory
Accumulator-Register that stores the output of the ALU
ALU-Arithmetic Logic Unit-Performs aithmetic calculations and logic functions
CU- control Unit- Controls the flow of data transfers
Cache-Holds frequently/commonly used data. Acts as an intermediary between CPU and RAM
Cores- Allows for more applicatios to run simultaneously. Number of cores multiples the number of instruction exxecuted per second
Clock Speed- How many instructions are executed per second, Measured in Hertz (Hz), 1 GHz = 1 billion instructions executed per second
Cache Size- Size of cache. Large the cache size more frequently/commonly used instructions can stored, resulting in faster fetching of data
Embedded System- A computer system embedded onto a device.Provides specific, pre-defined functions and is cheaper than a computer system
RAM- Random access memory- A volatile storage holding programs and data currently in use
ROM- Read Only Memory- A non volatile storage wich loads the boot up instrucions for the computed
Virtual Memory- Simulatd memory which acts like RAM but is located on Hard drive. Allows for more applicaions to run simultaneously and lets more memory be used than there is in the system
Flash Memory- An electronic non-volatie computer storage that can be disconnected from a power supply
