Research Methods: Pilot Studies
Karten in diesem Stapel (4)
- 1What is a Pilot Study?A small scale version of an investigation that takes place before the real one is conducted. The aim is to check that procedures, materials, measuring scales, etc work to allow the researcher to make changes if necessary. This means they can save time and money in the long run.
- 2Single-Blind ProcedureParticipants sometimes aren't told the aim of the investigation. They also aren't told which condition of the experiment they are in or if there is another condition: single-blind procedure. This is so they can remove the extraneous variable of demand characteristics.
- 3Double-Blind ProcedureNeither the participants or the researcher know the aims, often a third party conducts it.
- 4Control Groups and ConditionsThere is a control group and an experimental group. If the change in behaviour of the experimental group is greater than in the control group, then the researcher can conclude that the cause of this effect was the IV, assuming all other confounding variables remain constant.
