Distance Time Graph Characteristics

- A-B = constant speed
- B-C = stationary
- C-D = constant speed
- D-E = stationary
- E-F = Constant speed in other direction.
- Curves represent acceleration and deceleration.
- Displacement time graphs are basically the same except the gradient tells you the velocity.
- Speed = vertical
- ------------
- horizontal

Displacement Time Graph Characteristics

- Displacement time graphs are basically the same as distance time graphs except their gradient = velocity instead of speed.
- A distance here is either positive or negative so it is either going in one direction or the other.
- When distance is given with a particular indication of direction it is called displacement.
- So on the third line, when it goes down back to where it originated, the line then goes into the negative because it is going back in the other direction.
-
Velocity Time Graph Characteristics

- Gradient = acceleration on velocity time graphs.
- The red section (flat parts) represent moving in a straight line at a constant speed.
- The steeper the gradient, the greater the acceleration or deceleration.
- The / sections are acceleration in a straight line.
- The \ sections are downhill acceleration in a straight line.
- A curve line means changing acceleration.
- Negative velocity means that it is travelling in the opposite direction.
- Speed-time graphs are similar to velocity time graphs but ignore direction.
- Acceleration = vertical

- horizontal
