Flashcards

Meiosis / The Cell Cycle.

Khashayar Khani Biology. A Levels. English 15 cards

Cards in this deck (15)

  1. 1Meiosis.Meiosis I.
    Interphase.
    Prophase I.
    Prometaphase.
    Metaphase I.
    Anaphase I.
    Telophase I.
    Cytokinesis.
    Meiosis II.
    Prophase II.
    Prometaphase II.
    Metaphase II.
    Anaphase II.
    Telophase II.
    Cytokinesis.
  2. 2Interphase.- G1 - All organelles are replicated.
    - S - DNA replicated, producing sister chromatids. Centrioles duplicate. Chromatids condense.
    - G2 - All enzymes are replicated.
  3. 3Prophase I.- Homologous pairs of chromatids lie side by side in a process called synapses, forming a bivalent.
  4. 4Prometaphase.- Meiotic spindle is fully formed.
    - Sister chromatids attach to spindle fibres.
    - Both sister chromatids are attached to one spindle fibre.
  5. 5Metaphase 1.- Bivalents randomly align themselves along the metaphase plate, this adds to genetic diversity.
  6. 6Anaphase I.- Homologous chromosomes separate and move towards opposite poles.
  7. 7Telophase I.- Chromosomes de-condense.
    - Nuclear envelope reforms.
  8. 8Cytokenisis.- Separates the cells with the help of the cleavage furrow.
  9. 9During the transaction from meiosis I to meiosis II.........- Centriole duplicates, moving to opposite poles.
  10. 10Prophase II.- Sister chromatids condense.
    - Spindle fibres form.
    - Nuclear envelope disintegrates.
  11. 11Prometaphase II.- Sister chromatids attach themselves to the spindle fibres
  12. 12Metaphase II.- Spindle fibres align the sister chromatids along the metaphase plate.
  13. 13Anaphase II.- Sister chromatids separate individual chromosomes towards opposite ends of the poles.
  14. 14Telophase II.- Chromosomes de-condense.
    - Nuclear envelope forms.
  15. 15Cytokinesis.Cleavage furrow separates the two diploid cells into four haploid cells.
