Flashcards
intelligence- psychometric
Cards in this deck (6)
- 1A01: spearman (g)-intelligence is due to one factor called 'g' for general intelligence.
-'g' affects individual skills which are used to do task skills.
-the individual skills are those that can make a person more skilled in one cognitive task than another. - 2A01: spearman 1904-tested local primary children with intelligence tests, memory tests and other perception tests.
-he found that individuals who do well in one test do well on other tests and vice versa.
-used factor analysis and said 'g' predicted test performance. - 3A02: duncan et al 2004-neurological evidence.
-used PET scans
-found that the frontal lobes were more active when participants performed high 'g' tasks, this is linked to problem solving. This shows that there may be an area linked to 'g' in the brain. - 4A02: gould-Gould suggests that Spearman made the mistake of reification.
-He decided that 'g' was a real concrete aspect of human behaviour rather than an abstract component.
-Therefore 'g' can’t be directly tested so is unfalsifiable. - 5IDA: yerkes-cultural bias
-in 1921, US army was tested using psychometric test.
-result showed that white Americans scored significantly higher than euro immigrants and black Americans.
-this was a result of culturally biased questions- they related to US sports, food and customs. - 6—
