Second Language Acquisition

  1. Evolve the knowledge by children and adults

  2. The process of learning that language

  3. Important differents between adult and child

  4. Acquisition: it’s through a subconscious process and instinctive process

  5. DST: Change in Behaviors and developments of all your surroundings social.

  6. Kraschen´s Hypothesis

    • Incidental Learning:Most of this acquisition happens through experience rather than formal education.
    • Intencional Learning : When someone is pay attention about your process and mistakes.
    • Natural Order Hypothesis: -Grammar Structures are acquired in a predictable order.
    • Monitor Hypothesis: Explain the ralationship between acquisition and learning.
      • In this Hypoteisis we can find individual variation in Monitor
        • Over-monitor users: Students who do not master the language and need monitoring constantly.
        • Monitor under users: Students have no care about their mistakes, Even though they are the most talkative people
        • Optimal monitor users:they ask for help to the monits only when it is necessary, they are more autonomous than the others.
    • Input Hypothesis: Focus not on structure deliberately (i+1) is provided naturally when input is understood.
    • Affective Filter Hypothesis: This hypothesis deals with how motivation, trust and positivism affect the time of generating input.
      • When the learner is have a high anxiety, low motivation low self-confidence, the filter turns on and causes the learner to block out input.
  7. Dichotomies

    • Intake
      • Here is really important be careful with the acquisition of a new knowledge and how the student can be effort for to obtain it.
    • Input
      • All our environment is important to the moment to learn something.
    • Foreign Language
      • Here we can identify how a one person can learn a different language to his or her native language in own country.
    • 2 Language
      • when you are in the native country and you learn the native language. e.g British woman lives in Chile and she decides learn Spanish.
    • Partial Bilingual
      • Someone has a "totally" knowledge of his or her native language , but has a previous knowledge of other language.
    • Real Bilingual
      • In this case someone grown up inside two language, for that reason that person has a "full command".
    • Second Language
      • The 2L will be become ( depends its use),in 1L, and we can see sometimes when we forget some words of our native language and only we can remember it in othe language.
