  1. Models

    • Multi Store Model Atkinson and Shiffrin
      • Model
        • Sensory - Short Term - Long Term                             - Rehearsal -
      • Storage
        • Sensory
          • Iconic - Visual part, for example you remember what you see, lasts around 0.5 seconds Echoic - Acoustic part, you can remember what you hear, lasts a few seconds
        • Short Term
          • Encoding - Conrad 1964, people mixed up letters that sounded acoustically similar Capacity - Miller 1956, people could remember lists of 7 +/- 2 items, also increase if chunking method was used Duration - Peterson and Peterson 1959 Trigrams fade after around 18 seconds
        • Long Term
          • Encoding - Semantic Capacity - Potentially unlimited Duration - Potentially a lifetime -Bahrick Et Al -Ques
      • A02
        • Strong - seems to be a difference in the systems for example clive wearling ltm worked but stm was damaged Strong - Can explain primary and recency effects Weak - Does not display the three tyoes of LTM episodic procedural and semantic
    • Working Memory Model Baddely and Hitch
      • Model
        • The Central Executive |                        | |          Viseo Spatial Sketchpad The phonological loop
      • What is it?
        • Viseo Spatial Sketchpad
          • The 'inner eye' organises all information visually as you would as if you were sketching them out on paper. Its the mental 'rough paper' you might use when doing arithmatic
        • Phonological Loop
          • An Auditory store, rehearses information in two separate ways.  Phonological store - considered the inner ear, deals with the perception of sounds and speech Articulatpry Loop - the inner voice Baddely 1986 said it rehearses sounds for 2 seconds
        • Central Executive
          • Manages the system, the other components are slave systems and do exactly as the central executive decides they should do.
