The multi-store model
- Sensory register
- Duration: very short
- Encoding: iconic(see), haptic(feel), echoic(sound)
- Short term memory
- Duration: 30 secs
- Encoding: acoustic
- Capacity: 7+-2
- Long term memory
- Duration: up to a lifetime
- Encoding: semantic
- Capacity: unlimited
- Sensory register
The working memory model (STM)
- The central executive
- Determines where the information goes
- Capacity: very limited. It can only deal with one piece of info at a time
- The visuospatial sketchpad
