Probability

  1. Theoretical Probability

    • Theoretical is used in everyday life it is said in numbers but can also be in words (likely, maybe, certain).
    • Pr(event)= fav/total
      • Pr(blue ball) = 2/6 = 1/3 of a chance of getting the blue ball.
    • Complimentary events are opposite and add to 1.
  2. Ven Diagrams and Two Way Tables

    • Raw data is the one you cant use (of eat). Data is the one you can use.
    • Ven Diagrams
      • favourable/total
      • (+) = numbers added, (and) = both as the total
    • Two Way Tables
      • Only 4 out of 8 numbers are in the ven diagrams.
      • Both 'total' sides add up to the 'overall total'
  3. Probability Notation

    • Notation is used so you don't get confused!
    • Sample Space - EVERYTHING, includes all the outcomes, inside curly brackets {}. You don't wright how many times the S or the 4 is there, just put it in the sample space the number of times. SS =
    • Every Notation can be used in a way to represent something on a Ven Diagram
    • Union = U, union mean add.
      • AUB = {*everying in A and B}
    • intersection = n, intersection means what x and y have in common
      • AnB = {*everything A and B have in common}
    • Opposite = '
      • A' = {*everything thats not A*}
    • Elements and Subjects
      • c = subset, subset is the whole circle, E = element = the numbers or things inside the subset.
    • {} or O/ = mutually excluded, mutually excluded or the null set is if there is nothing or no elements.
  4. Tree Diagrams

    • The amount of outcomes = the amount of options in last column.
    • Events w/ replacement = events with the same probability throughout whole experiment.
    • Events X Replacement = events that DON'T have the same outcome throughout the whole experiment.
  5. Experimental Probability

    • Experimental Probability = number of favourable outcomes / total no of trials.
    • The more trails, the closer to the expected.
    • Pr(event) x number of trials.
