2. residential/nursing homes can be seen to be institutionalised

   • scheme which provides self contained accomodation so people can live independantly
     • householders have opportunity to join in communal facilities and recieve support and care (24hr service)
   • Allows person to become part of extra care community as well as the wider surrounding community
   • popular with local authorities and health commissioners as alternative to residential care
