a material made of long chains of molecules, joining smaller molecules, called monomers
changing its properties
- longer polymer chains: make polymer stronger and less flexible
- plasticiser: small molecules added between polymer molecules to weaken the forces. Makes it more flexible and soft.
- vulcunization: sulfur atoms become cross links, making it stronger and less flexible
