Welding

  1. MIG Welding (Metal Inert Gas)

    • This is an arc welding process that uses a continuous solid wire electrode that is heated and fed into a weld pool from a welding gun. Two base materials are melted together forming a joint.
    • Can be used for thick or thin metal materials.
  2. TIG Welding (Tungsten Inert Gas)

    • An arc welding process that uses non-consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld.
    • Weld area is protected from oxidation by inert gas shielding gas
      • Argon or Helium
    • Used for critical weld joints e.g Thin Wall pipe.
  3. Oxy-acetylene Welding

    • This a welding process with a mix of OXYGEN and ACETYlENE
      • Regulated amounts of each gas exit from individual cylinders. These gases mix and exit through weld gun. The type of flame depends on amounts of each gas.
    • Uses different amounts of Oxygen and Acetylene based on what material needs to be welded
      • 1. Neutral flame (equal amounts of oxygen and acetylene)
      • 2. Carburizing Flame (excess acetylene)
      • 3. Oxidizing flame (excess oxygen)
    • Very versatile, can be used on most metals.
  4. MMA Welding (Manual Metal Arc)

    • Involves striking an arc between a covered metal electrode and the workpiece.
      • Heat of the arc melts the parent metal and the electrode. They then mix to form a continuous piece
    • The most versatile type of Welding, Can be used for a wide variety of functions.
