  1. Writing Rules

    • It can be as dark and negative as you want, but make sure to have some jokes or light-hearted moments in there too.
    • Try to create a mood as early as possible.
    • Try to describe the characters creatively, not just simply.
    • Try to create and expand the scenes and setting creatively, not just simply.
    • Give the reader easily enough information to create an image of the scene in their mind, but let their mind wander and create the scene too. Don't give too much information.
    • Always keep hope with the main protagonist(s) (and therefore the reader).
    • Give every character a reason to be where they are, doing what they are doing, even if it's simple or implied.
    • Have a closed (and preferably happy) ending. However, open endings are great if there is a sequel to come after.
    • Try to not go on unnecessarily long rants (unless it is a character talking/thinking).
    • If a scene does not have any immediate importance in character-building, scene-setting or plot-unfolding, it is almost always not necessary and can destroy the reader's immersion.
    • Have at least one unpredictable or unpredictably predictable twist or event in the plot.
