About Periodontology

GoConqr Original

What the resources cover

The unit starts with structure. The mind map Anatomy and Physiology of Periodontium breaks the gingiva, periodontal ligament, bone and cementum into macro and micro features. The quiz on the development of the periodontium asks which statements are false, including the order in which cementum and alveolar bone form. Another quiz on the periodontal ligament tests how it changes with age and where it is narrowest.

From there the page moves to disease. You will find mind maps on periodontal disease, gingivitis, periodontitis, gingival diseases and periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic diseases. Flashcard decks cover local predisposing factors and systemic risk factors, and a flowchart sets out AAP diagnosis.

Assessment and treatment

For clinical skills, look at the flashcard deck on perio assessment, PSR and recording, which deals with probes such as the Nabers probe and the UNC 12 probe. The notes on Basic Periodonatal Examination and the BPE Quiz go well together. The mind map Periodontal therapy looks at pocket depths after non-surgical care and at explaining things to patients. Short notes cover the aims, indications and complications of root surface debridement, plus types of Gracey curettes.

Where to start

  1. Begin with the anatomy mind map, then the quiz on the periodontal ligament.
  2. Move to the disease and classification maps, then the risk factor flashcards.
  3. Practise assessment with the probe flashcards and the BPE Quiz.
  4. Finish with therapy and the quiz Periodontal Surgery and GTR, which asks, for example, what type of procedure a gingivectomy is.

Using quizzes and maps together

Read a map first, then take the matching quiz. Wrong answers show which branch to reread. Flashcards then help you fix terms such as biological width. Teachers can pick a map and a quiz on the same topic as ready-made material.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the strand Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics and Periodontology in the subject Dentistry. Choose one resource that matches your next topic and open it now.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the mind map Anatomy and Physiology of Periodontium. It sets out the gingiva, periodontal ligament, bone and cementum, which the later disease and treatment resources assume. Then try the quiz on the periodontal ligament to check what stuck.

What do the mind maps cover?

They range from anatomy and gingivitis to periodontitis, classification, risk factors, plaque control, antimicrobials, periimplantitis and periodontal surgery. There are over 60, so you can follow one topic from basics to treatment, or dip into a single map before a quiz.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes.

Who is this page for?

It suits university students and professional candidates who want to revise periodontology topics, and teachers looking for ready-made material. Students can practise recall with flashcards, test understanding with quizzes and review structure with maps.

Which resources help with clinical examination?

Try the flashcard deck on perio assessment, PSR and recording, the notes on Basic Periodonatal Examination and the BPE Quiz. The notes on WHO probes and the mind map Probes also help with the instruments used.

What if I cannot find my topic?

Look across formats, since a topic may appear as a map, a deck or a note. Resources on furcations, recession defects, dental hypersensitivity and drug induced gingival overgrowth are listed. If a gap remains, build your own flashcards or notes.
