1. The Simon Commission 1927/28

   • Conservative govt were worried that the 10 year review of MC reforms would come under Labor govt
     • So they moved it to a year earlier
       • Lord Simon chaired committe
         • Not a single Indian was involved
           • Arrives in India 1928 for a fact finding tour
             • Congress + Muslim League boycott it due to lack of Indian involvement
               • Was never likely to introduce change

2. Nehru Report - August 1928

   • Indian only round table conference
     • Well-attended, wide range of religions/classes
   • Conference was appointed to draw up principles of Indian Constitution
     • Recommendations were based on premise of gaining dominion status
       • Radicals not happy, wanted purna swaraj
   • Recommendations mainly based upon reserved seats
     • Jinnah argued for Muslim Reserves Seats in Bengal and Punjab
       • Clashed with Congress ideas
         • Jinnah + Muslim league reject Nehru report
           • Seen as major break up in Hindu-Muslim relations

3. Dominion Declaration 1929

   • Labour Govt come into power 1929
     • Declare that they always saw dominion status as logical outcome of Montagu Declaration in 1919
       • Makes Simon Commission redundant
