My Understanding of Leadership

1. Leadership Is Complex

   • It is not just about if a Leader is "born" or "made"
     • Different components come into play: Behavior, Relationship, Traits are a few examples
       • Relational is a big component to me. Establishing that connection is a big deal in leading
   • Followers are just as needed as leaders
     • What makes a follower, a follower?
       • We study LEADership, but not FOLLOWship
       • We can learn from the followers, and the leaders, and the organization
         • It takes a great leader to learn from his/her followers and the organization
   • Leaders influence
     • They are much different than managers
       • A manager leads trying to drive results by managing, whereas a leader drives results by showing positive attributes. Similar characteristics that overlap in both, but both differ greatly.
