  15. 15Describe physical or emotional separationphysical= leaving the relationship
    emotional= no longer having feelings
  16. 16What is a strength of the equity theory?There is supporting evidence for the equity theory. Utne et al conducted a survey on 118 newly married couples, where equity was measured on two self report scales. It was found that couples who considered their relationship equitable were more satisfied than those who thought they were under/over benefiting. This increases the validity of the equity theory by confirming its prediction that equity is linked to satisfaction
  17. 17What is a weakness surrounding the research into the equity theory?Although research has established a relationship between inequity and dissatisfaction, the nature of the relationship between them is unclear. Clark argues that people shouldn't view their relationship in terms of rewards and equity, and if they do, this is a sign of marriage dissatisfaction. According to this perspective, dissatisfaction is a cause instead of a consequence of inequity. This reduces the validity of the equity theory, showing that equity may not be the cause of satisfaction.
  18. 18What is a weakness of the equity theory?The theory is affected by individual differences. Not all partners in romantic relationships are concerned with achieving equity. Husemen et al found that some partners are prepared to put more into the relationship than what they are getting out and others are satisfied to be over benefiting and don't feel feelings of guilt. This reduces the reliability of the equity theory as it shows that equity isn't universal in all relationships
