Baddeley and Hitch Dual Processing Task
If the same component is used to carry out task simultaneously then capacity is limited
However if the tasks rely on different components then the task is performed normally
Participants performed a reasoning task while simultaneously reciting aloud a list of numbers
To remember a list of numbers which requires the phonological loop
To complete a sentence verification task this requires the Central Executive
The speed of verifying the sentence slowed down there were few errors on either the reasoning task or memory task, providing evidence for more than one store of WMM
Can store shorter words in the phonological loop easier than longer words. Word length effect
When they were prevented from rehearsing the word length effect disappears
This provides strong evidence for the phonological loop
