1. report everything

   • you are told to say everything that happened even if some bits seem irrelevant
     • people may think some bits are irrelevant when they are not

2. mental reinstatement

   • to imagine the environment of the incident smells, sights, sounds.
     • retrieval cues

3. changing the order

   • reversing the order in witch the events happened
     • work out whos lying its hard to lie about something backwards

4. changing perspective

   • asked to recall what happened from a different perspective, ie. other witnesses

5. evaluation

   • limitations
     • police get a lot of irrelevant information, this waists time
     • hard to evaluate as there are many versions
     • grater demands on interviewers
   • strengths
     • meta analysis of 53 studies found a 34% increase in amount of correct information
     • the stages on there own made me differievce than a normal interview but with all 4 together there was a increase in accuracy
