Lexis + Semantics

1. Affixation: Addition of bound morphemes to an existing word.

2. Proprietary names: Name given to a product by an organisation which becomes the commonly used word for the same product. (e.g. hoover)

3. Eponym: Name of a person after something is named.

5. SEMANTICS

   • Weakening: words lose some of their original force/strength. (soon used to mean immediately but now means in the near future.)
   • Idiom: something that wouldn't make sense if you interpreted them literally.
