• Scientists believe one possible cause could have been the building ad filling of a large dam about 5 kilometre away from the epicentre of the earthquake as it could have put more pressure on the plates, causing them to slip
• The earthquake was cause my a collision of the Indo-Australian plate and the Eurasian Plate along the Longmenshan fault line
• The magnitude was 7.9
• Effects
• The economic loss was the second highest on history with around 134.5 billion dollars being used to aid this country - Economic
• At least 4.8 million people were left homeless and over 87,000 died. - Social
• 80% of the city's building were destroyed, causes the massive amount of homelessness. - Social
• There was a total of around 42,000 aftershock ranging from a magnitude of 4 - 6.4 - Environmental

Response

• This was the first time in history China asked for international aid. The Red Cross aided as well as the UN, World Vision, Direct Relief, Children Giving Hope and any other Countries and Companies.
• The over all amount of money used for repairs and other aid, was 134.5 million dollars

• The cause of the a was the north American plate going the same way but faster than the pacific plate. The epicentre was in a neighbourhood un San Fernando called Reseda.
• The magnitude was 6.7
• Effects
• There was 57 deaths and around 8,700 people injured with around 1,600 people requiring hospitalization. - Social
• There was about 15,000 aftershocks - Environmental
• There was an about $49 billion economic loss overall - Economic
• There was about 125,000 people left temporarily homeless 82,000 residential and commercial buildings destroyed. - Social

Response

• $11,000,000,000 was sent to Los Angeles as federal assistance.
• The USA officially declared Northridge earthquake as being a national disaster.
• The Federal Emergency Management System sent personnel in to assist in recovery.
• National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program agencies were put in charge of helping in long-term recovery.
