Flashcards
Memory- Working memory model
Cards in this deck (7)
- 1WMM: Baddeley Central executiveDetermines how brain's resources allocated. Resources come from LTM or senses. Very limited capacity.
- 2WMM: Baddeley Phonological loopdeals w/ auditory info + preserves order of info.
Phonological store: holds words heard.
Articulatory process: words heard or seen (repeated silently). - 3WMM: Baddeley Visuo-spatial sketchpadHolds visual (appearance) and spatial (physical relationship between things) info.
- 4WMM: Baddeley Episodic Buffer (2000)Extra general store w/ limited capacity. Integrates info from all stores. Maintains time sequencing. Sends info to LTM.
- 5Evaluation: WMM Case study KFE- Shallice et al. KF: short-term forgetting of auditory info more severe (except meaningful sounds) than forgetting visual stimuli.
E- Means brain damage limited to phonological loop.
L- Support idea of separate visual & spatial systems. - 6Evaluation: WMM Case study issueE- Brain injury traumatic so change beh & task performance. Other difficulties like pay attention mean may underperform.
E- shows case studies of unique individuals so cannot be generalised to pop.
L- Issue as main support for WMM from case studies. - 7Evaluation: WMM CE too vagueE- EVR had tumour removed, CE intact as reasoning good but decision making bad.
E- Shows his CE not wholly intact. Thus why Critics point out CE probably made up of several components.
L- Account of CE unsatisfactory as likely more complex.
