Confidence Intervals

Cards in this deck (6)

  1. 1Is the mean of a sample the same as the population mean?No
A sample mean is the best guess of the population mean but is likely to be wrong
  2. 2What are confidence intervals?A range of scores of which the true mean (population mean) is likely to fall between
  3. 3How do you calculate a confidence interval?CI = M ± 1.96 × S.E.
+ = Upper bound of the CI
    - = Lower bound of the CI
  4. 4When calculating CI we use the SE > How is the SE calculated?SE = ?? / (√?)
SD / square root of N
  5. 5What % is CI usually calculated to?95%
The area under the curve covers 95% probability (We can say that 95% of the time, the true population mean will be in the confidence interval)
What % is CI usually calculated to?
  6. 6Can you calculate difference CIs?Yes
    For 90%: ± 1.645
    For 99%: ± 2.576
