Economic
- NEP failing
- Falling living standards for urban workers
- current farming methods inefficient
Ideological
- NEP allowed free market capitalism which was not a communist idea!
- Hoped that collectivisation would awaken their revolutionary spirit
- They were currently working for their benefit, not the state
Political
- Right wing argued NEP and suggested importing grain but this meant less money for industry
- Stalin used it to win support from the left (who wanted rapid industry) and isolate Bukharin
