Episodic memory:
- personal experiences, autobiographical events that are time-stamped including people, places and behaviour, conscious effort required to recall them
Semantic memory
- Record of facts, meanings, concepts and knowledge about external world that we have acquired, likened to dictionary. Time-stamped
Procedural memory:
- memory for actions and skills of how we do things, e.g. walking done without consciouss awareness, not time stamped and very difficult to explanin to someone.
AO3:
- Tulving, episodic and semantic memories are in prefrontal cortex, semantic on left and episodic on the right
- Belleville: devised an intervention to improve episodic memory in older people, results showed it helped. By distinguishing between different types of LTM helps us to treat issues with them.
- Cohen said procedural is separate to episodic and semantic (Declarative memory)
