        • a large anonymous group are more likely to behave in an antisocial and aggressive manner. Crowds have collective mind sets and group acts as one ('mob').
      • Deiner (1980)
        • deindividualion occurs when self-awareness is blocked by environmemental events. occurs when people feel different. E.g. get caught up in the present so they are unable to think about the consequences and perception becomes distorted. Factors; strong feelings of group memebership, increased levels of arousal and focus on external rather than internal events.

        • Public Self-awareness- concern over presenting yourself to others i.e knowing you're being judged. being in a crowd reduces this. believing your not accountable for their actions increase aggression
        • Private Self-awareness- an individual own sense of self (thoughts, feelings, values and morals). Sense of who they are, own standards that guide behaviour. might behave out of character in a crowd rather than thinking for themselves. May no longer be able to think rationality and more aggressive. More likely to occur in social situation.
