Bowlyb's Evolutionary theory-

A01:

Attachement- innate human survival mechanism.

*Maintains proximity to caretaker

*Provides secure safe base for child to explore the world.

*Helps child regulate emotions.

> Child selects special attachment figure (monotropy)

>Attachment must occur within Critical period (2.5 years)...or there will be long lasting negative effects.

>Will effect emotional and intellectual development.

Primary attachment= Template for future social relationships

Internal working model=Realtionship with primary caregiver gives expectations for fututre relationships.

Continuity hypothesis=Attachment type remains stable as child develops (stable child=stable adult)

Maternal deprivation= Primary and full dep:

Primary:Leads to anxiety, depression and excessive need for love.

Full:(Lack for 1st 6 months) leads to impossiblity of making bonds.

A02:

*Spitz and Wolf -observed mothers in penal institutions caring for babies for 1st year.

*Rhesus -Monkeys: wanted comfort not food.
