What the atomic structure quizzes cover

The quizzes offer questions on atomic and mass numbers, particle charges, orbitals and electron configurations. Atomic numbers and mass numbers quiz includes questions about helium and krypton, while Atoms, Protons, Neutrons & Electrons quiz asks about charges and electron orbitals.

For a different focus, Electron Configurations asks you to identify an element from its configuration. Quantum Numbers includes questions about the principal quantum number and electron shells.

How to use them

Start with the atomic numbers and mass numbers quiz if you want to practise finding neutron numbers. Its helium question shows the calculation, so you can check the working as well as the answer.

After a quiz, note which questions you found difficult. Switch to a mind map or note on the Atomic Structure unit page when you want to review an idea before returning to the questions. Explore another quiz when you are ready for a different topic.

Frequently asked questions

Which quiz is a useful starting point?

Atomic numbers and mass numbers quiz is a useful place to begin if you want to practise working out neutron numbers. It includes a helium question with the calculation shown, as well as a question about protons in krypton. You can then move on to questions about particle charges.

Do these quizzes cover electron configurations?

Yes. Electron Configurations includes a question that asks you to identify an element from its electron configuration. Electronic Configuration also asks about sub-shells. For related practice, Atomic Orbitals includes questions about the discovery of the electron and an early model of the atom.

Are the quizzes free to use?

Yes. Every quiz listed here is free to open, study and take without an account. The resources were made by GoConqr users. A free account also lets you save quiz scores and make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

Are there quizzes for GCSE and A-level Chemistry?

Yes. The page includes quizzes labelled for both GCSE and A-level Chemistry. A-Level Chemistry: Atomic Structure asks about particle charges, locations and masses. A GCSE-labelled quiz also covers the charges and relative masses of protons, neutrons and electrons, giving school students topics to practise.
