Environmental Technology and Water Treatment

88 resources created by 64 users

This Environmental Technology and Water Treatment page on GoConqr gathers community-made quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes, from sewerage and pre-treatment to disinfection, tertiary treatment and sludge disposal. It's built for university students and professional candidates practising treatment processes and water maths, and for teachers after ready-made material. There are over 80 resources here, including more than 10 quizzes and over 30 mind maps, mostly at university and professional level, with a little for school students. Pick a topic, try a quiz, then make your own.

About Environmental Technology and Water Treatment

GoConqr Original

What the resources cover

The page follows water from source to discharge. Flashcards such as 2 - Sewerage and Pre-treatment ask what sewerage is and how Dry Weather Flow is calculated and used in design. Point-of-Use water treatment covers the principles and goals of treating water at the tap. Mind maps then take in coagulation and flocculation, filtration, dissolved oxygen, sludge treatment and disposal, and several on tertiary treatment.

Beyond water, there are maps on waste recovery, incineration, air purification techniques and the electrostatic precipitator, plus a Sustainability map on life-cycle assessment.

Where to start

  1. Read the note Wastewater treatment stages - created from Mind Map for the overall sequence.
  2. Work through the flashcards Wastewater treatment processes and Treatment - Disinfection, which asks what causes THMs and how chlorine behaves in water.
  3. Move to the maps on tertiary treatment and sludge.
  4. Finish with quizzes.

Using quizzes and maps together

Open a mind map first to see how a stage fits in. Then take a quiz on the same stage. Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volume 2 Review tests the activated sludge process, including sludge wasting. Class D Wastewater Sample Questions asks about raw influent and the effects of chemical additions. If a question catches you out, go back to the map or deck for that stage.

Water maths

Several quizzes are about calculation: Basic Water Math, Applied Water Math and Distribution Math Practice 1. The last one has tank surface area questions, such as the top of a cylindrical tank 75 feet across. Try them alongside the treatment topics.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the Energy, Environment and Built Systems strand of Engineering and technology (general or other). Choose one stage, test yourself, and add your own notes or cards where the gaps are.

Frequently asked questions

Which quiz should I try first?

Start with Class D Wastewater Sample Questions for a broad check on raw influent, disease and chemical effects. If you want process depth, move on to Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volume 1 Review and then Volume 2, which covers activated sludge.

What do the mind maps cover?

They cover tertiary treatment, coagulation and flocculation, filtration, dissolved oxygen, pretreatment and sludge treatment and disposal. There are also maps on waste recovery, air purification techniques and the electrostatic precipitator, so you can link water work to wider environmental technology.

Are there resources for water maths?

Yes. Basic Water Math and Applied Water Math are quizzes, and Distribution Math Practice 1 includes area questions on tanks and pipe openings. They suit anyone preparing for operator-style calculations in treatment or distribution.

Who are these resources for?

Most are at university and professional level, so they suit university students, professional candidates and teachers looking for ready-made material. A smaller share suits school students. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr.

Are the resources free?

Yes. Every resource here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

What if my topic is missing?

Look at related titles first, since topics such as disinfection or sludge appear across decks, maps and quizzes. If you still can't find it, build your own flashcards or map for that stage and use it alongside the listed material.
